OPENING CEREMONY
 

H.E. Mr. Branimir Gvozdenovic, Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism; Montenegro

Branimir Gvozdenovic

Branimir Gvozdenovic was born in 1961 in Bar. He graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Podgorica. His professional career began in the Secretariat for Development of Montenegro, the organizational affairs, where he coordinated a team of young professionals who, during nineties, initiated the IT development of Montenegro on new ICT platforms. He was later appointed Assistant Secretary in the Secretariat, and in 1999 was elected to the Executive Director of the Post of Montenegro.

He became Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Economic Development in 2001 and performed that duty for three terms. During this period, 18 months he was President of Bar Municipality. In the next Government, he was the Minister for Economic Development. After the parliamentary elections of 2009 in the new government he was elected as a Minister of Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection, and served in this position until the end of 2010.

From February 2011 to December 2012, he was the political director of the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro.

During his career Gvozdenovic, among other things, was Chairman of the Board of Directors of EPCG and a member of the Board of JP PTT Montenegro. One of the initiators of the Festival of Information Technology Achievements (INFOFEST), as the most important regional ICT events, as well as a number of projects which have provided a concrete outcome to the development of the country.

More than once he was elected member of the Parliament of Montenegro. He is a member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party of Socialists.

Also, Gvozdenovic is member of several associations and thematic associations: President of the Assembly of the WHC 'Buducnost', and has served as President of the Assembly of the Handball Association of Montenegro and Chairman of the Board ŽRK „Buducnost''.

His professional affinities are related to the intensification of economic and democratic development, as well as the acceleration of the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Go to Top

H.E. Mr. Lazar Radenovic, Mayor of Budva, Montenegro

Lazar RadenovicLazar Radjenovic is from Budva, born on September 6th 1976 in Kotor. He is married to wife Jelena and has two daughters Nadja and Vida and son Marko. He graduated from Faculty of Economics.

Education:

1995 – Graduated from “Danilo Kis” High School in Budva
1999 – Graduated from Faculty of Economics in Subotica
2001 - Completed postgraduate studies in tourism at the University of Rome

H.E. Mr. Joseph Grima, Malta Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to UNWTO

Born on the Island of Malta where he has lived and exercised his profession as journalist of the written and electronic media and TV documentarian, Joseph Grima has had a long and successful career in local and international media, starting as a newspaper reporter and later specializing as Radio and TV Producer, TV talk show host and documentary producer. Before entering politics, Mr. Grima had reached the highest executive position of the broadcasting profession in Malta, that of Chief Executive of the Malta Broadcasting (supervising) Authority.

Elected to the Malta Parliament three times in succession Mr. Grima held the positions of Leader of the National Parliamentary delegation to the Council of Europe, Prime Minister's Special Envoy, Special Envoy to the Conference on European Security and Cooperation (CSCE) Madrid, Special Envoy to the Conference on the Law of the Sea (Geneva), Minister of Industry and Minister of Tourism.

Mr. Grima also served as Chairman and Chief Executive of the Mediterranean Publishing Company. a joint venture  between the Malta Government, Libya and Italy, has  been the owner of a national radio station and Chairman of the International Communications Corporation, a company that specializes in creating innovative international  websites in support of the Tourism and other industries.

H.E. Mrs. Brunilda Paskali, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Entrepreneurship, Albania

Brunilda Paskali
Ms. Brunilda Paskali has over 17 years of experience in leading and managing the organizational and financial administration of “WISDOM” ltd, a company in the field of education. Part of her job description was being in charge of the Board of Directors of WISDOM ltd and creating national and international networks with strategic national and foreign partners.  

Ms. Paskali was for 5 years Head of the Scientific and International Relations Department, as well as lecturer at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at WISDOM University.
 

She completed a two-year long Master’s degree from Norwich University in Vermont, USA in the field of Diplomacy, specializing in “Conflict Management” and has undertaken a series of postgraduate trainings in the field of International Relations and Diplomacy, International Employment Law and Business Immigration. She has organized and held speeches in several national and international conferences in the legal, economic and psychological field and the development of higher and vocational education.

Mr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General, World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)

Taleb Rifai

Taleb Rifai is Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). He began his four-year term on 1 January 2010 and has been elected for a second four-year term, starting January 2014, by the 20th Session of UNWTO General Assembly held in August 2013.

Mr. Rifai has an extensive background in international and national public service, the private sector and academia. Positions held include: Assistant Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), several ministerial portfolios in the Government of Jordan (Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Minister of Information and Minister of Tourism and Antiquity), CEO of Jordan’s Cement Company, Director of the Economic Mission to Washington DC and Director General of the Investment Promotion Corporation of Jordan.

Mr. Rifai was involved in research, teaching and practicing Architecture and Urban Design in Jordan and the USA. He has a Ph.D. in Urban Design and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, an M.A. in Engineering and Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, and a BS.c. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Cairo in Egypt. Go to Top

Prof. Silvana Durasevic, PhD, Dean, Faculty of Tourism, Bar, Montenegro


Silvana Djurasevic Silvana Durasevic was born in Split, Croatia. She graduated at the Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade; completed her Master’s degree at the University of Surrey in Guildford, UK; aqcuired her Ph.D. degree from the University of Singidunum in Belgrade.

Silvana is specialized in marketing management, particularly management in tourism and the media. She published numerous papers and articles as well as several studies and books and participated in scientific projects and meetings in tourism and the media. She passed training with the Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation in Dubrovnik, Croatia, 2001. Also, she is the holder of the Certificate-Professional Trainer in Tourism, acquired at the International Management Center Krems in Austria in 2001.

Silvana had prominent positions in tourism and the media:
- Director of Sales in Montenegroturist (the largest tourist company in Montenegro at that moment)
- Deputy Minister for Tourism in the Government of Republic of Montenegro
- General Director of National Tourism Organization of Montenegro
- Marketing Director at the Independent daily ''Vijesti''
- Deputy Director-General of Public Broadcasting Service of Montenegro
- Sales Manager in FOX Montenegro  

She was a lecturer in tourism and the media in several higher education institutions in the country and abroad. She is a member of Rotary Club Podgorica and was its president in the year 2007/2008. Silvana holds the award of Rotary International – a “Paul Harris Pin” for the contribution to humanitarian work in 2011.

She is the president of NGO TOURISM FORUM - MONTENEGRO. Since 2008 she is lecturing at the University Mediterranean – Montenegro Tourism School, in Bar and Podgorica. Currently, she is a Dean at the same Faculty. She is married, mother of three children, lives and works in Podgorica. Go to Top

Prof. Rade Ratkovic, PhD, Dean, Faculty of Business and Tourism, Budva, Montenegro

Rade Ratkovic

Rade Ratkovic was born on 8th of September 1951 in Cetinje. He graduated from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Economy in 1975 and in 1997 received his doctor's degree in economics.

During the period from 1975 to 1992, he held the position of finance director at HTP "Montenegroturist" Budva, creating and managing a large tourist project "Resort Slovenska plaza". From 1992 till 1999 he managed his own consulting firm, offering consulting services in the hospitality and tourism sector in Montenegro. He began academic career in 1999 at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management in Kotor, part of the University of Montenegro, as vice dean and docent, later associate professor. From 2011 he is employed at the Faculty of Business and Tourism, Budva as dean and full professor.

He is the author of a number of original scientific papers in the fields of economy, finances and tourism. He gained his expertise through many years of team and individual work on many projects. In the last 20 years he has done a dozen of projects in his capacity as an international consultant, as well as local expert, the BAS system consulting, etc. Go to Top

Prof. Durdica Perovic, PhD, Dean, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality, Kotor, Montenegro

Durdica PerovicDurdica was born in 1968 in Montenegro. She graduated from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, with a Master degree in tourism. In 2008 she received her PhD in tourism from the same University. 

From 1993 to 2004 she worked as Manager of the private company „Restoran-pizzeria M”.
 
In 2004 she started her academic career at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management of Kotor as teaching and research assistant.
 
Since 2013 Mrs. Perovic is Dean of the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management and Professor responsible for research and lectures at the same Faculty. Go to Top

Mrs. Jelena Radjenovic Dandrea, General Manager, Tourism Organization of Budva, Montenegro

Jelena Radjenovic

Ms. Jelena Radjenovic Dandrea was born in 1978 in Montenegro. She graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade, in 2002 and obtained her Master degree from the University of Bolognia in 2006 - “Interdisciplinary Master in Eastern European Researches and Studies” (MIREES)”. Ms. Radjenovic Dandrea graduated from the Diplomatic Academy "Gavro Vukovic", at the University of Montenegro in 2004. She spent the Academic year 2005-2006 studying and researching at School of International  Relations, University of St. Petersburg, Russia. Since 2007 she is an Attorney at Law.

Ms. Radjenovic Dandrea holds a degree from London School of Public Relations at McCann Erickson, Belgrade. She is fluent in English, Russian and Italian.

Since 2008 Ms. Jelena Radjenovic Dandrea is a General Manager of Tourism Organisation of Budva. She was a General Manager of Hotel " Slovenska plaza" in Budva in 2007 and also worked as a Consultant for Adriatic properties.

From 2002-2005 Ms. Jelena Radjenovic Dandrea worked as a Legal advisor in the joint stock company  HTP "Budvanska rivijera". Since 2004 Ms. Radjenovic Dandrea was a Board President or Member at several Public institutions:

2012- 2014 - Member of the Board of Directors of the Public preschool institution “Ljubica Jovanovic - Masa“
2010- 2012 - President of the Board of  Directors of  “Grad teatar“  (City Teather Festival)
2004- 2005 - Member of the Board of Directors of the public organization “Muzeji, galerija i biblioteka” (Museums, gallery and library) in Budva.

Her bussines career in tourism started when she was a student, mostly through seasonal job opportunities where she gained basic experience in tourism industy. Later, at her position of a General Manager of the Tourism Organisation of Budva, Ms Radjenovic Dandrea had the opportunity of working as part of the team responsible for the organization of several well-known events in Montenegro: the concert of Madonna at Jaz beach in Budva 2008, annual convention of DRV (Deutscher Reiseverband)/German tourism assosiation in 2013. etc. Go to Top

SESSION 1: Setting the Stage: Positioning the Mediterranean Tourism in the Global Market - Opportunities and Challenges

Tourism in the Mediterranean has developed differently depending on the tourism capital and the political and economic dynamics of each country. Despite being competitors, the challenges and opportunities also vary across the Mediterranean destinations in terms of level of development, performance and positioning and therefore the priorities and the key policy initiatives need to respond the specific needs of the regional diversities. This session will mainly focus on the current and future quantitative/qualitative aspects regarding the positioning of the Mediterranean destinations in the global marketplace.

 

Mr. Rolf Freitag, President, IPK International, Germany

Rolf Freitag

In the summer of 1968 Rolf D. Freitag graduated from the University of Munich, Germany, in the field of business sciences. He started his professional career as an assistant professor at the Institute for Economic and Social Geography of the University of Munich.

In 1970 Rolf D. Freitag founded the company IPK – according to the wishes of the University of Munich and the Bavarian Ministry for Economy and Traffic.

Rolf D. Freitag was IPK’s Chief Executive Officer from 1970 to 2003 and then became President of the IPK International Group.

Since 1970 Rolf D. Freitag has directed more than 1000 projects in 50 countries worldwide. Rolf Freitag was also founding in 1988 the World Travel Monitor – IPK’s  global database for international travel behavior covering 90% of global outbound markets and their travel to all destinations worldwide. Go to Top

Worked as a teacher for 5 years, than in travel business for 15 years (Product Manager and later Head of Product Development). Employed in the Ministry of Tourism since June 1999 first as a Senior Adviser and Head of Department as of February 2002.

Mrs. Ðurdica Šimicic, Director, Mali Lošinj Tourist Board, Croatia

Mrs. Simicic graduated from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Opatija.

Since 2006 Mrs. Ðurdica Šimicic holds the position of the Director of the Town of Mali Lošinj Tourism Office since 2006. In 2007, in cooperation with the Town of Mali Lošinj, she launched the concept of destination management which is nowadays one of the best examples of practice in Croatia. Thanks to the quality of the concept of destination management and linking all key players in tourism, the Town of Mali Lošinj Tourism Office became an affiliate member of UNWTO in 2010 and joined its Knowledge Network a year later. Each year, Lošinj receives national and international awards for quality and maintenance, destination management, responsible and sustainable tourism that is the basis of the strategy of the development implemented by the Tourism Office and the Town of Mali Lošinj.

Mrs. Simicic is involved in a series of important tourism activities in Croatia and received several awards for her input in the tourism development of Croatia. Go to Top

 

Mrs. Corinne Lespinasse-Taraba, Deputy for Engineering & Development Department, Agency of Tourism Development of France, Atout France

Corinne LespinasseCorinne Lespinasse Taraba is Deputy Director for Engineering and Development of the Agency of Tourism Development of France, Atout France, since 2009.

ATOUT France is the official agency for tourism development in France and is the unique state operator in the tourism sector. The Agency organized according to the economic interests grouping has three complementary tasks: to promote and develop the brand “Rendez-vous en France” at international level, to adapt the French offer to the national and international tourism demand, and to assist the French partners, both private and public, to increase their economic competitiveness.

Corinne Lespinasse Taraba coordinates the engineering of the tourist offer in France and abroad (Greece, Tunisia, Haiti, Oman,etc.) in the field of marketing, distribution, structuring, project development, and quality initiatives. She is the author of several books published by Atout France ("Choosing a sustainable tourism accommodation label" - March 2013, "Improving the quality of tourist accommodation" - April 2013, "Networks and social media in tourism"- June 2014, "The French luxury, a global benchmark for international visitors (French / English) - December 2014. Go to Top

 

Mr. Günter Ihlau, Special Representative, BTW (Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry)

Gunter IhlauMr. Günter Ihlau has a Master degree in Business Administration. He started his career as a trainee at TUI. Over 10 years he was engaged in various executive positions abroad and returned to TUI headquarters as Director of Destination Operations.

Simultaneously, he took over national and international roles in various tourist associations and boards with a special function within the managing board of the German Tourism Association and the destination committee association as chairman. This involved crisis coordination and management of the entire German tourism industry.

On an international level, participation and collaboration among the affiliate members of the UNWTO for many years.

Vice president for TUI international relations. Furthermore, chairmanship of the TUI tourism think tank.

Member of the board of the German National Tourist Office and member of the tourism advisory board of the German parliament. Go to Top

 

Mr. Charles de Gheldere, Director, Business Intelligence Services, International Air Transport Association (IATA)

Charles De GheldereDirector of Business Intelligence Services at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Charles joined IATA in 2002. He holds an Engineering degree and a Master of Business Administration. Born in Belgium, Charles spent most of his professional life in Canada and USA.

The International Air Transport Association is the global trade association for the airline industry. The 250 member airlines comprise 83% of total air traffic. IATA’s mission is to represent, lead and serve the airline industry. IATA also runs the Agency Accreditation Program which authorizes travel agents to sell international and/or domestic tickets on behalf of IATA member airlines. It also allows access to IATA’s Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP), an efficient interface for invoicing and payment between the agent, airlines and transport providers.

Charles has developed a vast portfolio of data & statistical products used by airlines, airports and industry suppliers.  These Business Intelligence products and services are derived from the unique industry data IATA has access to such as passenger & cargo ticketing data as well as many other data sources reported directly by the airlines to IATA. IATA’s Business Intelligence & Statistics Services are focal point for information services within the aviation industry. Mrs. Zeljka Radak Kukavicic, Director, National Tourism Organization of Montenegro

Zeljka Radak

Mrs. Zeljka Radak was born in 1971 in Montenegro. She graduated from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Montenegro. She holds a master degree and her thesis was dedicated to “Creating a contemporary concept for the promotion of tourism product of Montenegro”.

Since 2015 she has been Director of the National Tourism Organization of Montenegro. From 2004 to 2011 she was Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism. 

Mrs. Radak is a member of various national and international bodies:

In 2013 she received an award from the Montenegrin Tourism Association as a recognition for successful cooperation with the tourism industry and for contribution to business environment improvement. 
 
During her career Ms. Radak was actively involved in the tourism reform agenda, coordination of projects (nature-oriented tourism, Thematic routes, Tourist signs, Hiking and biking) in cooperation with GTZ (German Agency for Technical Cooperation), in making laws in the field of tourism (Tourism Law, the Law on Tourism Organizations, Law on rafting), etc. She is a lecturer and member of the Board of Examiners at the University of Tourism Kotor and the Faculty of Tourism Budva - Tourist guides. 
 
She is an author and co-author of different publications and expert papers, such as “How to start your own business”, “Business Plan”, “Entrepreneurship for the new millennium”, Faculty of Economics, Podgorica; “Financing of SMEs in tourism”, Magazine of the Faculty of Tourism, Kotor; “Credit Guarantee Schemes” – Catalogue of papers of the Employment Agency of Montenegro. Go to Top

 

Mr. Miguel Payeras, Managing Director, Cluster for Technological Innovation in Tourism of the Balearic Islands “BalearsT”

Miguel Payeras

Balears.t is the Cluster for Technological Innovation in Tourism of the Balearic Islands, a private non-profit association set up and registered in Spain in 2009. Its aim is to foster the transformation of tourism to the Balearic Islands of Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera by means of knowledge, innovation and technology.
 
Its main strategic goals include:
- To increase travel and tourism products and services for potential and existing customers to the Balearic Islands
- The reach for excellence in Human Capital taught, trained or employed in the Balearic Islands
- To make local companies more International
- To take sustainability requirements as opportunities to make a destination more competitive
 
Mr. Miguel Payeras  has been working for the tourism industry for the last 30 years, holding Senior Executive positions in Europe, the Americas and for over a decade in Asia. Many Mediterranean destinations are experiencing serious challenges with subsequent market shifts towards other regions and alternative tourist products; the region has begun to lose its share of the international travel market. The session will explore the strategies and tools to improve the “quality visitor experience” through sustainable and innovative products, in particular to capture a wider range of market niches and minimize seasonality.

 

Prof. Frédéric Dimanche, SKEMA Business School, Sophia Antipolis - Nice

Frédéric DimancheFrederic Dimanche, Ph.D., is professor of marketing at SKEMA Business School (France). He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon (USA). After over 15 years in the USA, where he worked as Professor in the College of Business Administration of the University of New Orleans and as Research Director of The Olinger Group, a full service marketing research firm, he joined SKEMA Business School in 2001 to create and develop on the French Riviera the Center for Tourism Management. He launched award-winning Master programs in tourism, event, and hospitality management that are taught in English and that attract students from all over the world. Frederic has published numerous tourism-related research articles and has co-authored one book (in French) on hospitality management. He is currently finalizing a book (in English) on tourism in Russia, as part of an EU-funded project.

He has contributed as a guest lecturer or as a consultant to universities, private companies, and national or regional tourism organizations in France, the USA, and other countries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Frederic is a past President of the Travel and Tourism Research Association Europe. He hosted in southern France successful international conferences such as the Travel &Tourism Research Association Europe annual conference and the BESTEN think tank and conference on sustainable tourism. Frederic received the National Tour Foundation Visiting Scholar Award, USA (1994) for service to the industry and the Harrison McCain Foundation Research Professor Award at the University of New Brunswick, Canada (2010).  Frederic is a member of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism.Go to Top

 

Mr. Miguel Mirones, President, Institute of Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE)

Miguel MironesMr. Miguel Mirones is President of the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE).

After starting his studies in journalism at the Complutense University of Madrid, Mr. Miguel Mirones moved to Barcelona where, in 1988, he obtained a Master degree in Hospitality Management and Tourism Marketing Management awarded by EADA. The part of his Master studies took place in L 'Ecole Hotelerie of Glyon, Switzerland.

Mr. Miguel Mirones started his business career in 1986, at the age of 22 years (ranging from restoration to nightlife business activities).

In 1994 he was appointed President of Relais Thermal Group, the first Spanish chain in the thermal sector, which brings together six resorts located in different Autonomous Communities. In Cantabria: Liérganes Spa and Hotel Termas de Liérganes; Basque Country: Balneario de Cestona; Galicia: Balneario Acuna; Alhama de Aragon: Termas Pallares; and La Rioja: Baths of Albotea.

Mr. Miguel Mirones also belongs to the Board of Directors of various companies.

Since the beginning of his career, Mr. Miguel Mirones participated in association activities that have led him to occupy different positions. Today he belongs to the Executive Committee of the Spanish Confederation of Hotels, CEHAT, whose fundamental purpose is to represent, defend and promote the interests of the hotel industry to society, governments and all kinds of institutions.

In 2009 he was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Social Policy and Health CEOE. The same year, 2009, he was appointed Vice President of the Affiliate Members of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

In 2014 he was elected Vice president of the Spanish Health Tourism Cluster marketed under the brand Spaincares. Also that year, he was elected Chairman of the UNWTO Affiliate Members, the program representing the private sector within the United Nations and including more than 400 members between tourism associations and local tourism authorities and educational institutions.

In January 2015 he was re-elected Member of the Executive Committee of CEOE Spain.

Mrs. Annita Demetriadou, Acting Director General, Cyprus Tourism Organization, Cyprus

Annita Demetriadou

Mrs. Annita Demetriadou is the Acting Director General at the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, which is the National Tourism Organisation of Cyprus.

During her vast work experience within the Organisation she held the position of Director of Tourism at the Quality Assurance Department, the Strategy Department and the Administration, Accounts and Registry Department. In addition, she had the responsibility of the operation of the Filoxenia Conference Centre and the Larnaca Marina.

Since 2010, Ms Demetriadou holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Agrotourism Company.

She represented the Cyprus Tourism Organisation at various international conferences and committees and since her appointment at the position of Acting Director General, she represents Cyprus in the European Travel Commission (ETC).  Go to Top

 

Mr. José Pintor Aguilar, Senior Advisor, Energy Division, Union for the Mediterranean, Spain

Jose Pintor AguilarSenior Adviser at the Energy Division of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean since 2014.

He holds a degree in Law and in Political Sciences. Postgraduate in International Relations. He joined the Spanish diplomatic service in 2003. He has held different positions in the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Madrid. He has been posted in Equatorial Guinea, Morocco and Nicaragua.

In 2014 he was appointed at the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (Barcelona),  a multilateral partnership aiming at increasing the potential for regional integration and cohesion between the two shores of the Mediterranean through regional dialogue and the implementation of specific projects. As Senior Adviser in the Energy Division, which is in charge of the promotion of renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate action in the Mediterranean region, he has been in charge, among other tasks, of the organization and follow-up of the Union for the Mediterranean Climate Change Expert Group. Go to Top

Mr. Iñaki Gaztelumendi, UNWTO Consultant on food tourism, Spain

Iñaki GaztelumendiEconomist. Master in Management and Strategy for Tourist Destinations.

He is currenlty an independent consultant with expertise in tourism industry. He is consultant on food tourism in the UNWTO and in the Basque Culinary Centre.

He is collaborating as a professor in several Spanish Universities as A Coruña, Barcelona, Málaga, Navarra, Oviedo, and Santiago de Compostela. He is also a lecturer on tourism trends specializing in Destination Management, Cultural Tourism, Gastronomy, and Tourist Marketing and Communication.

He was Manageing Director of the Tourist Board of Santiago de Compostela, Turismo de Santiago de Compostela, from 2002 to 2009, and Vice President of the Destination Council of the UNWTO from 2007 to 2009. Go to Top

 

Mrs. Lidija Ljesar, Director General of the Directorate for Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture of Montenegro

 Mrs. Lidija Radulovic Ljesar was born in Pec, in 1965. In 1988 she graduated from the Cultural Faculty in Cetinje, Department for conservation and restoration, and had her postgraduate studies at the University of Zagreb and at the Faculty of Architecture in Podgorica, Department of Protection and revitalization of architectural heritage. She is currently attending the PhD studies at the University of Warsaw, Poland - Department of Archaeology - orientation - The remains of architecture (architectural heritage).

Mrs. Radulovic Ljesar participated in drafting and implementation of numerous national and international projects in the field of conservation of cultural properties, and she coordinated a series of significant projects in the field of integral protection, implemented under the auspices of the Council of Europe and UNESCO.

She took part in the conservation and restoration works at the Monastery Praskvica, Budva, Cathedral of Dubrovnik, Patriarchate of Pec, as well as in the preventive conservation work on medieval tombstones stecci. As coordinator, she worked on the preparation of the Management Plan of the Natural and Cultural - Historical Region of Kotor, the Management Plan and Nomination dossier of medieval tombstones Stecci for UNESCO World Heritage List, the Study of the Protection of Cultural Property of Historic Core of Cetinje and participated in the preparation of Nomination dossier of Historic Core of Cetinje for the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Mrs. Radulovic participated in numerous international conferences, symposiums and held a number of presentations, lectures and trainings. She was been engaged by UNESCO as an expert for integral protection, giving lectures and trainings in the country and abroad, in the field of valorization and management of cultural heritage. In recent years she has been working intensively on reforms and strategies in cultural heritage, based on international conventions, directives, standards and recommendations. She is the author of the Project "Revalorization of cultural property of Montenegro" and co-author of the multiannual project of archaeological research and conservation "Paths of continuity". She is a member CDCPP - Steering Committee for Cultural Heritage and Landscape of the Council of Europe. Since 2009, she has been working as the Director General of the Directorate for Cultural Heritage within the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro, and is currently engaged as the professor at the Faculty for Culture and Tourism within the University Donja Gorica. Go to Top

 

Dr. Emad Hijazeen, Deputy Chief Commissioner, Commissioner for Petra Archeological Park/Cultural Heritage and Tourism Affairs of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, Petra, Jordan

Emad Hijazeen

Dr. Hijazeen holds a PhD in tourism management from the Catholic University- Eichstaett-Inglostadt, Germany. His Dissertation entitled “Tourism and local communities in Jordan: Perception, Attitudes and Impacts”. It examines the economic, social, and environmental implications for the local communities in archaeological sites such as Petra and Jerash. This study was awarded a prize for the best interdisciplinary study at the Catholic University in 2006, and was awarded the German Society for Tourism Studies (GDT)” Prize for a most excellent international study” at the International Tourism Fair (ITB) in Berlin in2007.
 
Currently is the Deputy Chief Commissioner and Commissioner for Petra Archaeological Park and Tourism Affaires at Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA). Before this position, he was appointed Chair of the Department of Archaeology and Tourism, and Assistant Dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Mutah University. He also held the position of junior consultant at the International Tourism Organization for Development and Investment (GATO) in Munich-Geramny.
 
Dr. Hejazeen was a full time lecturer for Tourism Studies at Mutah University since completing his doctorate. In addition to scientific research, he commands several languages like English, German, Italian and French. Mr. Hijazeen has many participations in international and national conferences. He is also a co-founder of two NGOs (Bait al Anbat and Turath) which work to preserve Jordan’s cultural heritage.
Dr Hijazeen manages feasibility and sustainable development programs for PDTRA, aiming at developing the tourism sector situation within PDTRA by designating the needed regulatory and planning framework for tourism investment, and creating the needed linkages with the nearby tourism destinations at Aqaba and Wadi Rum. At the same time, insuring that the local communities’ needs and aspirations are fulfilled and satisfied.
 
He also assumes responsibilities of protecting the integrity of cultural & heritage and natural resources of Petra, conduct compliance archaeology standards of the World Heritage Convention, as well as cultural resources surveys relating to archaeological investigations, heritage protection and conservation, while providing appropriate facilities and access to visitors for their leisure time, enjoyment and enriching learning experience. Additionally, undertakes the responsibility to manage & coordinate all non- archeological activities and programmers carried out within Park boundaries and whether conducted by Park employees, cooperating organizations or outside contractors. Go to Top

Mr. Marjan Hribar, Special Advisor to the UNWTO Secretary-General

Marjan HribarDirector General of Tourism and Internationalization at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, Republic of Slovenia (2005 – 2015)

In October 2009 Mr. Hribar was elected as a Chairman of the Commission for Europe at UNWTO. In 2012 he became a Full member of Trade Policy Committee at the European Commission. Since 2013 he is a personal adviser for Tourism development of Prime minister of Macedonia.

In June 2015 Mr. Hribar was appointed Special Adviser to the Secretary General of the UNWTO on the Balkans
